Hi Students and Colleagues,
Many thanks to those students (and staff!) who have volunteered to be backing performers as Hayley’s ‘Jail Birds with Brooms’ for her final Song & Dance assessment piece around her song ‘Moving On’.
We have had some basic familiarisation rehearsals and it is quite quick to pick up the shape and structure of the piece. We have set an ideal number of 8 backing performers as a minimum, and at this stage we find ourselves still short by about 3-4. So, if anyone is interested in and available to join this musical/percussion & choreographic piece (simple choreography and some basic backing vocals) please let Dr Chris know and we will arrange a quick overview session to go through the basic structure.
As time is getting short and logistics a bit of a challenge – and you are all no doubt engrossed in your own various assessment deadlines and responsibilities - you will also be provided with a Rehearsal Video (and Audio) to familiarise yourself with the piece outside of formal rehearsal times. This should shortcut the process a lot and get everyone up to speed quite efficiently.
FYI – this is one of Hayley’s own songs (that happens to be in the Top 10 internationally!). Also, we are looking at potentially producing a video clip of the piece.
Anyway, let us know if you are interested/available. Hayley is generally in on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons between 13:00 and 15:30. N.B! Julia Lewis has agreed to ‘release’ the first 30 minutes of Research & Communication this Thursday to make that time available for an initial rehearsal for anybody who would like to participate to support Hayley’s performance.
Please email either myself and/or Julia Lewis if you are: a) interested, b) available, c) keen to collaborate across disciplines(!)
Many thanks.
Dr Chris Willems
