Dear APAC Students and Staff,
Good evening. I hope this email finds you and your families well, safe, dry and with power on. Thank-you for your continued patience and flexibility as we work through these next few days.
Upon an assessment of the safety of our community being onsite, APAC will reopen gradually from tomorrow, Tuesday 11 March. However, given there are specific challenges for many staff and students to get to campus it won’t be quite business as usual, but we have a clear plan below.
Before I disclose the plan, I wanted to thank you to all of you for staying connected and to staff for their work over the weekend and today in ensuring we can welcome our staff and students safely back to APAC. We are grateful that 102 Adelaide Street has weathered this event well. In speaking with almost all of our teachers and staff today, I was happy to hear all I spoke to were safe and in communication.
I know Heads of Discipline, Sean Dennehy and Kristina Chapman have been in touch with students over email and other channels too and I applaud many students who have been proactive in communicating their whereabouts and plans for return. This demonstrates a truly professional attitude and there were many more examples as well as tales of APAC students and staff putting others first and heading home to be with loved ones through the deluge. These are clear examples of our cherished APAC Value of Resilience.
Plan for Tuesday 11 March, 2025
- Teaching Staff and Students
Many of our teachers and students are in impacted parts of South-East Queensland so access and equity for all of you is imperative and we have decided that means a tailored approach to teaching delivery tomorrow, Tuesday 11March 2025. Please check your APAC Moodle Learning Management System for the plan for each of your units for Tuesday.
To ensure access for all students, classes that are running on Tuesday will either run online or be re-scheduled. For classes running online on Tuesday, the Heads of Discipline have urged students not to come to campus but to stay at home and video in.
Any questions you may have about the teaching plan for Tuesday and beyond are welcome and should be directed to Heads of Discipline Sean (Acting) and Kristina (Screen Production):
Sean.dennehy@apac.edu.au (Acting units)
Kristina.chapman@apac.edu.au (Core units – those with the XAC codes and Screen Production units)
Please also look out tomorrow on Moodle for confirmation of the week 9 teaching schedule. We can assure you come end of Trimester; all lost teaching and learning time will have been made up.
- Full-Time Staff
Full-time staff are expected on campus tomorrow but may work from home if: they have children whose schools are still closed, have road closures and/or no public transport servicing them or by arrangement with me directly please.
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow or over the next few days, but please continue to prioritise your safety and do stay in touch.
Students, one more reminder to please refer to Moodle for further information on classes.
Kind regards,
Chris Harris
Chief Executive Officer
